Dissect It!- 2nd Timothy 1:7

Dissect it!!

2 Timothy 1:7 NIV For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

What is the spirit which this Bible verse is referring to? The Holy Spirit right? God’s Holy Spirit. This is not something we earned or can earn, this is a gift from God. The Holy Spirit is God living in us. God loves us so much and likes to give us gifts when we ask him. Luke 11:13 says:

If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

I suggest reading this verse in context.

So, what exactly does this verse say that the spirit God gave us does not make us? Timid. What exactly does the word ‘timid’ mean? I would say it means afraid, or shy. According to http://dict.reference.com/browse/timid the word ‘timid’ means: lacking in self-assurance, courage, or bravery; easily alarmed; timorous; shy.

We are not to be timid! With God on our side nothing can stop us. It doesn’t matter what people think of us, only God’s opinion matters. Deuteronomy 31:6 says:

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
That says it all! God loves you and if you are doing his will you cannot fail. Instead of fear, or shyness,God had given us power, love, and self-discipline. What a great alternative! With God’s Holy Spirit we can have self control which is like self- discipline; we can have all of his fruits of the spirit. They are anyway, fruits of the Spirit. We can’t do anything alone and succeed, or if we do it won’t be as easy or as fruitful as it would be if we did it with God’s help. He wants to help you and be glorified in your life. Just let him!! Let go and let him rule. It is so much better, trust me! God’s way is always better, you know it, so live in it.
