King of kings

Prayer Prompts – Boldness

Is praying intimidating? I mean, think about it… we are talking to the King of the universe! Do we dare address Him as Father? Do we dare even speak to Him at all? You’d think not, wouldn’t you? But our wonderful Creator wants us to talk to Him; and not just talk to Him, but pour out our hearts to Him, to ask things of Him, the great things and the ridiculously small things. Oh, how we don’t deserve this! Our King asks that we ask things of Him! He asks that we ‘bother’ Him! Scripture is full of examples of this! Think of the Psalms, all the dark, hurting and doubting ones, to the awe-filled, worshipful, dancing ones! The early patriarchs sure talked a lot with God too, often demanding things of Him. Jacob wrestled with Him. And don’t forget Abraham’s conversations with Him in Genesis 18. Or fast forward a few hundred years and think of Moses! God has commanded us to be bold in prayer, we must not be afraid to talk with our King, our Father, to ask Him things.

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Romans 8:31-32 (NIV)

If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:13 (NIV)

“If we have faith the size a mustard seed, we can move mountains. Yet, we are so pathetic in our faith and our prayers. It is time for me (us) to stop rendering God useless in our minds. We need to start having radical faith. And, we need to see that our “mountains” (struggles, sins, addictions, etc.) are nothing compared to our God. Instead of talking about our mountains, we need to begin talking to them. Declare them to be smaller than your God, and then turn away. They are not worth your time. Your God is bigger and better. We can so easily become distressed and worried. As children of God, we need to pray about this and ask God to make us unshakeable.”

-Emma Roth

So I challenge you: dare to pray. Dare to ask. Dare to trust.

The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. James 5:16b (NIV)

And in Christ we are righteous!
