Define It!- June 2014

Define It!

Words:  Romans 13:1-All of you must be willing to obey completely those who rule over you. There are no authorities except the ones God has chosen. Those who now rule have been chosen by God.

Definitions:

According to Dictionary.com-to comply with or follow the commands, restrictions, wishes, or instructions of a power or right delegated.

According to Google.com- submit to the authority of those who have the power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience.

According to TheFreeDictionary.com- To carry out or fulfill the command, order, or instruction of one that is invested with this power.

Defining It:

All the definitions above basically mean the same thing. They talk about complying, submitting, and fulfilling to what those who have power over you instruct or order. This means that you are to do what you parents, teachers, grandparents and those put in charge of you: like a babysitter instruct you to do, but only if it goes along with what the Bible says. If they tell you to steal something or buy a toy or game that is inappropriate, you have the right to not do what this says. My definition would be to submit or fulfill the orders or instructions of someone in charge or in power of you.

Godly Perspective:

Like Romans 13:1 says, we are to obey the authorities God puts in our lives. Obeying our authorities is very important because it’s how God wants us to treat others.

Why Obeying Authority?

It’s the theme of this month and I feel that it’s important to learn about what it means. I know that not everyone is a “master” at doing this, so I thought I would bring it up and maybe it would help you.
