Life’s Application

Life’s Application

Read about Miriam and how she learns about love. Below we have provided some questions that go along with the story.

“ooofff!” muttered Miriam as she flung her bag onto her bed. It had been a long day and all she wanted was to spend some quiet time before dinner reading her school book. Than, after dinner, she wanted a hot shower. Miriam sighed at the thought of it. She took out her hair tie and threw herself on her bed.

Miriam was startled out of her reading about seven minutes later. She heard her little sister’s voice. “Mama, now can I? It’s been a really, really long time. I think she has breathed long enough.” Then Miriam heard a quiet knock on her door. Without waiting for an answer her younger sister, Christie’s head appeared on the door way. “May I come in?” she asked coming in anyway. “Well you’re already in. So why ask?” Miriam replied irritated, not expecting an answer. After a few minutes later Miriam looked up from her book. “Yes?” She asked looking at Christie who was still sitting there, at the foot of the bed. “Do you want to play with resteraunt with me?” Christie asked hopefully. “With the restaurant with me. And don’t speak like a baby, you’re five years old. “ Miriam corrected. “And what restaurant do you mean?” “My… our play doh restaurant. Mommy says she wants us to make her a chocolate cupcake.” Christie said brightly and then added, “With chocolate syrup on top.” “Oh… um… I don’t really want to right now. Since that is what you were asking. Sorry, I have to do school reading.” “Miriam tried to smile she didn’t really have a good excuse. She winced inside as she saw her sister’s shoulders slump. “Okay.”Her sister said dejected. “Maybe we can play after you finish!” She brightened immediately. After Christie left Miriam tried to refocus on her book. “uggh!” She finally said aloud. “why do I feel so guilty!” Miriam kept trying to tell herself that it was fine she did have to do this for school….

A few minutes later Miriam found herself getting up from her bed, opening her door, and walking down stairs. She could do her reading later after christie had gone to bed. She loved her younger best friend too much to let her play by herself. Besides she needed to apologize for her earlier harsh attitude.
